Rolex Submariner Date 126610LV Explained

The Rolex Submariner Date reference 126610LV combines a green ceramic bezel with a black dial. Introduced in 2020, it succeeded the green-dial 116610LV and returned the colour balance closer to the earlier 16610LV. The reference also brought the 41 mm Submariner case, calibre 3235 and a wider bracelet. Its changes are evolutionary, but their combined effect makes it important to compare the whole generation rather than treating the green insert as the only identifier.

From aluminium green to ceramic green

The 16610LV used a green aluminium insert, the 116610LV paired a green Cerachrom insert with a green dial, and the 126610LV returned to a black dial. These three watches are often grouped by nickname, yet their cases and bracelets differ. Modern ceramic reflects light differently from aluminium and can shift from bright to deep green depending on the angle. Check engraved numeral fill, minute graduations, luminous pip and alignment before judging shade from one photograph.

The 41 mm case

The 126610 generation increased the nominal diameter to 41 mm while narrowing the visual weight of the lugs compared with the previous maxi case. A broader 21 mm bracelet helps the case and band feel balanced. From above, inspect crown guards, lug taper and bezel width. From the side, check crystal height and case-back profile. An interpretation with the old broad lugs and a new dial may look familiar but does not reproduce the updated proportions.

Dial, date and Chromalight

The black dial uses applied luminous markers and a framed date at three beneath the Cyclops lens. Hands should reach their intended tracks, with the Mercedes hour hand, long minute hand and lollipop seconds hand remaining clearly separated. The date must sit centrally and the lens should provide strong magnification without being tilted. Luminous colour and intensity should be consistent across hands, markers and bezel pip after an even charge.

Calibre 3235 and Glidelock

Rolex calibre 3235 has a stated power reserve of about 70 hours and supports the quick-set date. The Oyster bracelet closes with an Oysterlock clasp and uses Glidelock for tool-free extension. On a comparison piece, test power reserve, crown positions, date change, bezel action and clasp adjustment. A movement can keep acceptable time without duplicating the genuine calibre, so describe measured performance separately from visual similarity.

Water use requires evidence

The genuine Submariner Date is rated to 300 metres, but that rating cannot be assumed for an alternative. Gaskets, crown tube, crystal seating and case-back torque all affect sealing. Have the individual watch pressure tested before swimming or diving and repeat the test after service. Exterior inspection remains useful for alignment and finish, but it does not establish a depth rating.

Christine

Christine writes for BuyWatches about watches that attract attention for their design, history and distinctive details. Her interests range from familiar Rolex references such as the Submariner, Datejust, Daytona and Oyster Perpetual to popular collections from Omega, Breitling, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and other well-known names.

Rather than relying on broad claims about quality, Christine prefers to look closely at the details that separate one watch from another. Her articles often cover case proportions, dial layouts, bezels, bracelets, reference changes and the visual differences between generations.

When discussing replica watches, she aims to clearly separate the specifications of the genuine reference from the characteristics that may vary between replica versions. This gives readers a more useful point of comparison without suggesting that every watch shares the same materials, movement or construction.

Christine writes with UK readers in mind and keeps her articles straightforward and easy to follow, whether she is looking at a newly released dial, revisiting an older reference or comparing details across a familiar watch collection.
